Bertha Brinkerhoff passed away April 7, 2016 with her family by her side. Born in Nahunta, Georgia to Amos and Hattie Lyons on February 13, 1935, she moved to Jacksonville as a teenager.
While working at Southern Bell she met her husband, “Brink” and they married December 25, 1956. They lived in their beach house for the remainder of their lives. Her husband, two sisters, and one brother (plus one family dog, Goldie that was a great companion for many years) predeceased her.
She is survived by three children, Parilee (Chuck) Brenchley of Safety Harbor, Randy Brinkerhoff of Jacksonville Beach, and Rita (Tim) Kurashima of Honolulu and four grandchildren, Alec, Cale, Chloe, and Emily. Bertha had many lifelong friends at the beaches.
She enjoyed traveling almost as much as she loved a morning cup of coffee while sitting on her front porch. Her travels took her to many places including Austria, Germany, the UK as well as Hawaii, Napa Valley and multiple National Parks.
Duval County Schools employed her for 14 years as the cafeteria manager at Atlantic Beach Elementary School and Fletcher Junior High School. Cooking and entertaining family and friends brought her much joy. She is and will always be deeply missed.
Graveside Services will be held at 12 noon, Friday, April 15, 2016 in Beaches Memorial Park Cemetery of Atlantic Beach.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bertha’s memory may be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida or the Jacksonville Humane Society.
