Barry was born March 30, 1962, in Salem, Indiana to Jerry and Shirley (Patton) McCoy. Barry moved many times as a child because his father was in the Navy. Barry moved to Jacksonville, Florida from Seymour, Indiana in 1980 at the age of 17. He was baptized on April 6th, 1980, at Palm Valley Baptist, in Palm Valley, Florida. Barry had been dating a 16-year-old girl named Dana Smith in Seymour, Indiana in 1979. In May 1985, Barry and Dana decided they would get together as Dana was coming to Jacksonville, Florida for vacation. On May 17th Dana arrived in Jacksonville and by May 31st the two were engaged. Barry loved fishing, both by boat and surf fishing. He was a certified diver, and he enjoyed going to the Florida Keys to spearfish as well as during lobster season. He enjoyed snorkeling for scallops with his family in Steinhatchee, Florida. He free dove into caves at several Florida Springs, once sucking in the air bubbles behind National Geographic diving photographers in a spring cave so he could see the cave as well.

He also enjoyed hunting, belonging to two different hunting camps. He enjoyed Indiana racoon hunting as a kid with his uncle, he also enjoyed duck hunting, deer hunting especially in Tennessee, wild boar, and would purchase gator tags annually to hunt for alligators. He fished several local tournaments with family.

Barry was a committed husband and unwavering caregiver, provider, and protector, a truly great friend, a loving supportive proud daddy, and sweetest Pawpaw to his grandson, Maxwell. He was full of life and loved his family. He left us on Tuesday, March 25th at 7:35 p.m., at sunset. He is terribly missed and will remain forever in our hearts, until we are rejoined.
