Barbara Ann D’Andrea

d. June 30, 2017

Barbara Ann D’Andrea, the fourth child of six siblings of Ruth and Francis McCafferty, was raised in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.   Upon graduation, Barbara immediately enlisted in the US Air Force, which she served for 8 years, and then enlisted with the US Navy for another 12 years until she retired in 1991.  Her enlistments took her all around the world, but after faithfully serving her country for 20 years, Barbara called Jacksonville, Florida home.  After retirement, Barbara continued to work with the military as an Access Control Guard for the Helicopter Strike Maritime (HSM-40) at Mayport Naval Station for 21 more years.

Barbara had two daughters: Marla E. D’Andrea (39) of Jacksonville, Florida, and Theresa M. Chadderdon (35) of Jersey City, New Jersey.  A theme of serving seemed to be the driving force of Barbara’s life, for as she faithfully stood for her country, she just as steadfastly loved and cared for her girls.  As a single mother, Barbara did everything she could to provide for her daughters.  She was proud of any and all accomplishments, and if there was a need in their lives, she worked hard to fill it.  Barbara devoted the latter years of her life to her two grandchildren whom she loved fiercely.

Any free time Barbara had was spent by helping animals of all kinds.  No animal was turned away from her home, and she made sure they were given food, shelter and kindness.

Barbara D’Andrea passed away on June 30, 2017, at the age of 67.  She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Barry, her daughters, and her grandchildren.  For those who wish to pay their respect, a viewing will be held on Sunday, July 9th, from 3 PM – 5 PM at Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home on 3600 Third Street South in Jacksonville Beach.  A service will take place on Monday, July 10th, at 11:30 AM at the same location, with an immediate procession to the Jacksonville National Cemetery where Barbara will be buried with military honors at 1:30 PM.  In lieu of flowers, family members ask that you donate to an animal charity of your choice in Barbara D’Andrea’s name.
