Barbara Heamon, 91, longtime resident of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, died on November 3, 2024, with her family by her side.
She was born to the late Carl and Florence Shrader on June 14, 1933, in North Jackson, Ohio. When Barb was a young girl her family moved to Findlay, Ohio, where she did most of her growing up. After graduating from Findlay High School, Barb attended Denison University in Granville, Ohio, where she attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology in 1955.
She met her future husband, John Heamon, at Denison and they married shortly after graduation. Barb is survived by her three children: Julia Sturm, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Michael Heamon, of Adrian, Michigan, and Whitney Heamon, of Jacksonville. She is also survived by grandchildren Amanda Heamon and Georgia McGowan-Heamon, of Winter Garden and Jacksonville, respectively, as well as by her brother James Shrader, of Findlay, Ohio. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1998.
Barb was lucky enough to have a second chance at love when she reconnected with an old high school friend, Robert Hess, at a high school reunion several years after John’s death. She and Dr. Bob had nearly 20 happy years together before his death in 2019.
Barb had many talents: expert seamstress, potter, master gardener, painter, tennis and bridge player, to name a few. But most importantly, she was known for her hospitality, caring, and kindness, through which she touched many lives.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life for Barb will be held on Thursday, November 21st at 2:00 p.m., at Christ Church, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
Her family suggests a donation to Christ Church, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, in lieu of flowers.
