Barbara M. Council

Barbara M. Council, 82 years old, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 1st, 2024, surrounded by her family. 

 Barbara was born and grew up in Newport News, VA. After marrying in 1958, she briefly lived in Huntington, West Virginia, and then spent 32 years in Baltimore, MD, working and raising her two daughters. She was employed in the Property Accounting Department at the C&O railroad, now known as CSX. In 1998, CSX transferred Barbara to Jacksonville, FL, where she remained until her retirement in 2002. Over the years, Barbara filled her time either visiting family out of town or traveling. During her many voyages, she fell in love with Egyptian history and art. Her closest friends considered her the heart of the neighborhood.

 Barbara is survived by her daughters, Capri Lynette, of Crawfordville, FL, and Renae (Kenneth) Dryer of Pasadena, MD; her grandchildren, Chad (Kristan) Downer and Kyle Downer, also from Crawfordville and Matthew (Rachel) Dryer of Stevensville, MD; as well as her great-grandchildren, Aiden & Kaya Downer and Briella & Liam Dryer.

 A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 pm, Saturday, September 7th, 2024, at Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
