Ann Riker, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Arthur Riker; daughters, Cheryl Cloin (Jerry) and Candy Petrucci; grandson, Ronnie Waterman Jr. and Michael Waterman; and daughter-in-law, Gale “Yaya” Lucas.
Ann’s legacy lives on through her loving children: Leonard Lucas, Peggy Ann Barfield (Dennis), Sandy Hatfield, Sherrie Jenkins, and Lorrie Mattson (Steve). She also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Ann was known for her boundless love and deep devotion to caring for others—especially children, who called her “nanny”. She had an open heart and an open home, where countless little ones found a safe and loving place to grow. Whether it was her own grandchildren or the children of working parents in need of a helping hand, Ann welcomed them with warmth, patience, and kindness. She never simply watched over them; she nurtured them, guiding them with gentle wisdom and unwavering support. She remained invested in their lives, always curious about where their paths led and eager to celebrate their milestones.
Holidays were a time of joy in Ann’s home, where she orchestrated large family celebrations for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter. With an open invitation extended to family and extended family alike, she created an atmosphere of togetherness, laughter, and love. Her home was filled with the scent of home-cooked meals, the sounds of children playing, and the warmth of family bonds growing stronger with each gathering.
Her greatest legacy was the tireless love and energy she poured into caring for children. The last two great-grandchildren she cared for, Liam and Leyna Lucas, were especially dear to her, as she lovingly watched over them after they came home from the NICU. Her nurturing spirit and the impact she made on the lives of so many will be felt for generations to come.
Ann’s life was a testament to love, family, and selfless devotion. She will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. In lieu of flowers Ann asked to please donate to Wolfson Children's Hospital or Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
There will be a Visitation on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 5 to 7 pm at Quinn Shalz Funeral Home and a Funeral Service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Friday, March 28, 2025, at 10:30 am with a Committal Service to follow at Jacksonville National Cemetery with escorts at 1:30 pm.
