Ann Hensley McNamara, 87, of Fleet Landing Retirement Community in Atlantic Beach, FL and formerly of North Oaks, MN and Ponte Vedra Beach, FL passed away on July 8, 2018 with her children by her side. Ann was originally from California and left home after finishing her nursing degree to proudly serve her country as a United States Air Force flight nurse during the Korean War. In April 1955, while still in the Air Force, she married USAF F-86 fighter pilot, Donald McNamara.
Upon Ann’s return to civilian life, she resumed her nursing career in New Jersey until beginning a family. She is survived by daughters Diane, Susan (Dan), and Patty (Tony); and son Donny (Faith). Ann was the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren, Alexa, T.J., Kylie, Cara, Connor, Nicholas, Aidan, Luke, and Ian, who will miss their Nana very much. Ann is preceded in death by her husband, Don McNamara, as well as her parents Charles Hensley and Anna Yates Hensley.
Ann and Don had the opportunity to travel and live all over the world. They were avid golfers and enjoyed traveling after Don retired from 3M in 1993. They settled in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL where they built many lifelong relationships. Ann had a positive courageous spirit, and she will be missed by many.
Ann’s children would like to thank her wonderful friends at Fleet Landing as well as the Fleet Landing staff and the caregivers at the Health Center for their help and loving care.
A Celebration of Ann’s Life will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 11 at the Annex in Fleet Landing.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Lung Society of Florida at 1276 Easter St, Jacksonville, FL 32211.
