Alexis Osborne Gorman, 42, passed away on May 23, 2023, after a six-year battle with breast cancer.
She was born in Manhattan to Thomas and Dianne Gorman. She spent her early childhood in New York City where she attended Hunter College Elementary School and The Spence School before moving with her family to Wilton, Connecticut, in 1991. She graduated from Wilton High School in 1999 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Cornell University, graduating magna cum laude in 2003 with a BA in Sociology.
As a professional, Alexis was passionate. She was a voracious researcher and a super preparer. She was determined and tenacious. She interned at Spencer Stuart prior to entering her senior year at Cornell and joined the firm full time as an Analyst in 2004. Since then, Alexis has been a founder and key member of the firm’s Corporate Communications practice. In 2020, she achieved her long-term goal of joining the firm’s Partner ranks. Of her many accomplishments at the firm, she was particularly proud of the work she did for women executives, advocating for their professional advancement and the equitable compensation they deserve.
Alexis shared a wonderful life with her husband, Seth Dalton. In 2012, they were married at Blue Hill Stone Barns in an intimate gathering that represented their passion for food, nature, and close friends. Alexis and Seth shared a love for New York and resided in the West Village, Murray Hill, and most recently in Greenwich Village. In 2020, family and a love of the coastal lifestyle eventually took them to Atlantic Beach, Florida, where Alexis embraced a new life filled with daily walks by the ocean.
Dogs were good (heavy bias to Labrador and Golden Retrievers) as were birds (Northern Red Cardinals), and she even managed to find space in her heart for cats (very case-by-case). She loved reality TV shows and clips of audition segments that went awry.
Alexis was a special soul with immense magnetism, wit, and warmth that drew people to her. Alexis listened and cared deeply. Even during her own illness, she focused her energy outwards to support others. She became “Aunt Alexis” to the children of her close friends and family whom she loved to shower with visits, gifts, and love. She was unfailingly generous, but she was also a minimalist. She valued authentic experiences and friends over possessions, and the many who loved her are so very much the better for it. She will forever be remembered lovingly.
Alexis was predeceased by her father, Tom, in 2022 and by her brother, Greg, in 2016. She is survived by her husband, Seth Dalton, and mother, Dianne Osborne Gorman.
A memorial service will be held in the fall of 2023 to honor Alexis. In her memory, we encourage donations to Five Under 40 (https://5under40.org/), Metavivor (https://www.metavivor.org), or any organization that advocates for women or girls.
