Agnes T. McAndrew of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the age of 96. Agnes was born in New York City, New York and spent her childhood years growing up in Staten Island, New York and later Weehawken, New Jersey.
As a young girl Agnes received a full scholarship to attend the prestigious boarding school, St. Louis Academy, in Staten Island, New York. Here she graduated High School with honors and was voted the title of both the smartest and prettiest in her class.
After graduation Agnes worked for the Mobil Oil Company located in the iconic Empire State Building in New York City. She met and married her husband of 72 years, Edward J. McAndrew (deceased) in 1949 whom she met when his brother dated and married Agnes’ sister.
This union led to an exceptionally close family foundation which was dear to Agnes.
Residing in Marine Park, Brooklyn, New York Agnes and her husband welcomed two children and later moved to Staten Island, New York welcoming three more. They lovingly raised their 5 children; Patricia, Kevin, Maryann, Edward and Karen in Richmondtown, Staten Island, New York where Agnes continued her career working for the Legal Aid Society in Staten Island, N.Y.
After college educating 5 children, Agnes and her husband made their summer home in Rocky Point, New York their primary residence.
Here, Agnes routinely provided weekend lodging and delicious meals for her family, sometimes over 20 family members at a time. She enjoyed hosting an annual Fourth of July Party in Rocky Point where their waterfront home offered unobstructed views of the fireworks over the Long Island Sound. Agnes was very proud of her children and grandchildren and she loved being surrounded by her growing family during these times.
Agnes vacationed many winters with her husband at their second home in Fort Myers, Florida.
Here she enjoyed her love of the beach, early bird dinners, line dancing and socializing with family and longtime friends. Throughout her life Agnes lived in the moment always with a positive demeanor. She was a lifelong avid reader and active parishioner in the Catholic Church. The church was a source of support to her and her family throughout her early childhood and this fostered a strong base for her spiritual beliefs.
Agnes is predeceased by her husband and soulmate, Edward J. McAndrew and dear siblings, George Kohm, Madeline McAndrew and William Kohm.
